How badly has President Obama handled his attempt to flood the United States with illegal aliens?
Badly enough that the usually Obama-friendly Washington Post is fearful the country is turning against him on this issue – instead of (this is my opinion now) being conned into thinking he is serious about deporting them and has only been held back by Republican policies.
Excerpted from Karen Tumulty and David Nakamura\’s article in today\’s edition:
Untilnow, the politics of immigration have been seen as a no-loseproposition for President Obama and the Democrats. If they could geta comprehensive overhaul passed, they would win. And if Republicansblocked it, the GOP would further alienate crucial Hispanic andmoderate voters.
Butwith the current crisis on the Southwest border, where authoritieshave apprehended tens of thousands of unaccompanied Central Americanchildren since October, that calculus may be shifting.
Republicansand even some Democrats have accused Obama of being insufficientlyengaged in a calamity that many say he should have seen coming.
Theemergency has also renewed questions about the administration\’scompetence, reminiscent of those raised during the 2010 Gulf ofMexico oil spill, last year\’s botched rollout of the health-carelaw and more recent revelations of mismanagement that jeopardizedcare of patients at veterans hospitals.
InJune 2012, Obama issued anexecutive order that those who met certain requirements beallowed to remain in the country and to work.
A2008 anti-trafficking law that passed Congress nearly unanimously andwas signed by President George W. Bush gave new protections tochildren who were not from neighboring Canada or Mexico, stipulatingthat their asylum requests be fully adjudicated if they were pickedup for being in the country illegally.
Republicansargue that Obama himself sent a signal that the borders were open toyounger immigrants when he issued his 2012 executive order.
I agree with just about everything in the above excerpt. I also thank Karen Tumulty and David Nakamura for noting that the 2008 legislation had vast support on both sides of the aisle, not just among Republicans – a little something much of our media somehow keep forgetting to mention.
But, let\’s not forget that there is more to this administration\’s involvement than the 2012 edict. Instead of securing those borders, he has done nothing but cook the numbers to make it seem as though more people are being deported than in previous administrations (which is a lie – his administration just changed the way they are counted).
Let\’s also remember that Mr. Obama, through his disgraceful toady and sock-puppet of an Attorney General eric holder, has made it eminently clear he has no problem with people breaching our borders. And when one state, Arizona, tried to uphold the federal immigration laws Obama & Co. are ignoring, instead of saying “thank you”, holder filed suit.
These are the reasons that , in Ms. Tumulty and Mr. Nakamura\’s words, “the calculus may be shifting”.
May every politician who has looked the other way because he/she shares a “D” at the end of their name with President Obama, pay for this willful ignoring of our laws, and the consequences it is already bringing us.
If the citizens of this country are sufficiently repulsed by their actions, they will be able to show it in November.
I fervently hope they do.
