Luis Gutierrez is, at least ostensibly, a member of the House of Representatives from Illinois.
In reality, however, he comes across as a hard leftist with no apparent interest in United States laws when it comes to illegal aliens from Latino countries.
Not surprisingly, therefore, he is unhappy with President Trump’s announcement that the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) will be rescinded, to be replaced by congressional legislation – you know, the legal way it is supposed to be done.
How unhappy? Read the following excerpts from Olivia Beavers’ article at thehill.com and see for yourself:
Democratic Rep. Luis Gutiérrez (D-Ill.) on Tuesday issued an unusually personal rebuke of White House chief of staff John Kelly, suggesting the retired Marine general has tainted his military service by working in the administration as President Trump ends a program shielding young immigrants from deportation.
“General Kelly is a hypocrite who is a disgrace to the uniform he used to wear. He has no honor and should be drummed out of the White House along with the white supremacists and those enabling the President’s actions by ‘just following orders,’ ” Gutiérrez said in a scathing statement, shortly after Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced that the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) immigration policy will be phased out.
The Congressional Hispanic Caucus member claimed Kelly backed out of a commitment to protect DACA recipients, who were brought to the United States illegally as children, from deportation while serving as the Homeland Security secretary. “General Kelly, when he was the head of Homeland Security, lied straight to the faces of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus about preventing the mass deportation of DREAMers. Now as Chief of Staff, this former general is executing the plan to take away their lifeline and taking steps to criminalize young people who live and work here legally,” he said.
Both Republican and Democratic lawmakers have urged Trump to amend the program, rather than do away with it entirely. In a tweet, Trump said Tuesday that the issue will now need to be resolved in Congress.
There you have it. Viciously personal insults, combined with the now-standard hard-left Democrat claim that there are White supremacists in the White house (Who are they? See if you can get a straight answer.)
Rep. Guitierrez offered no reference point for his claim that General Kelly previously committed to preventing mass deportations of the children of illegal aliens.
But, then again, since President Trump is not demanding there be mass deportations, thus Guitierrez is doing nothing other than building a straw man to tear down, what possible difference does it make?
Luis Guitierrez will not lose his congressional seat over this obnoxious, dishonest behavior. Repbublicans didn’t even bother to put up a candidate against him last year. So HE is perfectly safe.
But what affect do his ravings have elsewhere? In competitive districts where Republicans point to Guitierrez as a voice of the Democrat Party and demand their opponents either repudiate him or explain why not?
He keeps winning win one seat for himself. But how many other seats does he lose for his party?
It is time – long past time, actually – for Democrats to wake up and think about this.

Here is a great Ann Coulter commentary on immigration.
