Today’s quote comes to us from Jesse Arreguin, the Mayor of Berkeley, California.
Mayor Arreguin is worried about Milo Yiannopoulos and Ann Coulter again trying to speak at the Berkeley campus. This certainly is reasonable, given that when they tried to speak earlier this year, black-clad, masked “antifa” thugs committed massive violence and property destruction, while Berkeley cops did little or nothing about it.
So now that Mr. Yiannopoulos and Ms. Coulter are coming back, he’ll make good and sure that “antifa” is not allowed to give the city a repeat performance, right? He’ll be telling the police to aggressively prevent the violence, property damage and general anarchy which reigned last time, wouldn’t you think?
Well, if you do, I suggest you think again. Because he is Mayor Arreguin’s position:
“I obviously believe in freedom of speech, but there is a line between freedom of speech and then posing a risk to public safety. That is where we have to really be very careful — that while protecting people’s free-speech rights, we are not putting our citizens in a potentially dangerous situation and costing the city hundreds of thousands of dollars fixing the windows of businesses.”
Translation: if we do exactly what the thugs who did all that damage want, thus forfeiting freedom of speech and handing the city to them, maybe – maybe – they’ll be nice this time.
Arreguin “obviously” believes in freedom of speech? Yeah, right. And the cow jumped over the moon.
I award Jesse Arreguin Quote Of The Day “honors”, for being so straight-up about his moral and ethical cowardice, his abrogation of responsibilities as mayor, and his surrender to hate-filled anarchist lunatics.
You don’t see that very often – at least not openly. So when it happens it should get its due recognition.
Great going, Mayor. How proud you must be.
