Here\’s another proof of the fact – and it is a fact we relearn over and over again – that truth can be more absurd than fiction.

Intandem with anew report on gun crime in Chicago, Mayor Rahm Emanuel hasproposed to track gun sales throughout the region and clamp down ongun retailers.
“Thisreport shows the extent to which illegal guns are the leading factorin driving violence, the sources of those guns, and simple,reasonable steps we can take to curb the flow of illegal guns ontoour streets,” Emanuel said in a statement accompanying theproposal. “The findings in this report demand action from each andevery one of us.”
Let\’s think about this – which clearly is more than Mayor Emanuel did.
-What percentage of gun crimes in Chicago are perpetrated using illegal guns? The vast majority.
-How many illegal gun users will be deterred by making it harder to buy guns legally? Based on the report referenced above, other than the guns sold by three identified in-state gun sellers – which it would make obvious sense to specifically target – the answer is virtually zero.
-How, then, is it possible to curb “the flow of illegal guns onto our streets” by making it harder to buy guns legally?
Could this possibly be more asinine?
What we are seeing here is exactly the same “round up the usual suspects” BS that the Rahm Emanuels of the world use all the time to make political points without doing a thing to solve the problem they supposedly are addressing. Now Emanuel can say “As your Mayor I have recognized that there is massive gun violence in Chicago and acted decisively to address it”….while the problem remains completely intact.
All Mayor Emanuel is accomplishing is to make it harder for people to defend themselves against the illegal guns he is doing nothing about.
The result of this proposed legislation? Every law abiding citizen in Chicago will be no more safe now than he/she was before – maybe even less safe – thus that much more vulnerable to thugs who use illegally obtained guns. . And every thug in Chicago who uses an illegally obtained gun will therefore owe Rahm Emanuel a debt of gratitude.
