Here are the first three paragraphs of an article by Luke Baker for Reuters. Let’s see how he characterizes the current Hungarian government, Israel and george soros:
Israel’s foreign ministry has issued a statement denouncing U.S. billionaire George Soros, a move that appeared designed to align Israel more closely with Hungary ahead of a visit to Budapest next week by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Soros, a Hungarian-born Jew who has spent a large part of his fortune funding pro-democracy and human rights groups, has repeatedly been targeted by Hungary’s right-wing government, in particular over his support for more open immigration.
In the latest case, Prime Minister Viktor Orban has backed a campaign in which Soros is singled out as an enemy of the state. “Let’s not allow Soros to have the last laugh” say billboards next to a picture of the 86-year-old investor, a campaign that Jewish groups and others say foments anti-Semitism.

“Soros, a Hungarian-born Jew who has spent a large part of his fortune funding pro-democracy and human rights groups”???????????
george soros is a self-hating rejector of his Jewish ancestry who, as a teenager, helped nazis instead of fighting them. The “pro-democracy and human rights groups” he funds are virtually all far left groups that are intolerant of anyone and anything but their own intractable believe systems. Mr. Baker can take his hagiographic fantasies about soros and stuff them somewhere dark and smelly.
As for Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, he is a politically conservative politician – one who has been Prime Minister since 2010 (and was also Prime Minister from 1998 – 2002). He is enormously popular in Hungary.
Why is it that so many in media insist on calling political conservatives right wing? How often do they call political liberals left wing? Do you ever it? Did you ever see them characterize Barack Obama as left wing during the 8 years he ran an intrinsically left wing administration? Baker’s – and Reuters’ – partisanship is in full display here.
Now, about that anti-Semitism.
I have a question for Mr. Baker: if the anti-soros campaign is anti-Semitic, how come Israel’s chief Ashkenazic Rabbi, David Lau, is backing it? Gee, I guess that opinion isn’t universal after all.
Only in a compromised media would a campaign that opposes a self-hating Jew/former nazi collaborator be considered anti-Semitic.
So what is the real reason for sneering at an attack on george soros? Well, here is a quote from János Lázár, Prime Minister Orbán’s Chief of Staff, :
“The Hungarian government’s goal is to stop Soros’s migrant campaign, which is supporting the migration of illegal migrants into our country. The government is not criticizing George Soros for his Jewish origin, but for his supporting the growing number of migrants entering in uncontrolled crowds into Europe.”
Aha. Suddenly things might be a bit clearer. Is the reason for this attack that Orbán is against wholesale migration of unvetted Muslims into Hungary. Just as President Trump is against wholesale migration of unvetted Muslims into the United States?
Does that make Trump – who has lived with, worked with, and peppered his administration with, Jews, an anti-Semite?
Does it make me one too, since I’m against exactly the same thing as Mr. Trump is? If so, it would certainly be a surprise, since I’m proudly Jewish and strongly supportive of Israel.
That, folks, is what the USA and Israel are up against.
Pretty pathetic, wouldn’t you say?
