THE PARAGRAPHS OF THE DAY

Today’s paragraphs come to us from Jane Perlez, writing for the New York Times.

Ms. Perlez wrote a typical Times article – i.e., one that questions something about President Trump.

But here are that article’s last three paragraphs.  See if you notice anything interesting about them:

In Washington, Mr. Trump repeated his impatience with Mr. Xi. In a post on Twitter on Wednesday, the president said China’s trade with North Korea had grown by almost 40 percent in the first quarter. “So much for China working with us — but we had to give it a try,” he said.

It was not clear where Mr. Trump got his 40 percent figure. A South Korean trade group said on Monday that China had imported much more iron in the last few months than previously. But the group also said that the North was a long way from making up the lost revenues from China shutting down its North Korean coal imports.

China’s trade with the North grew 37.4 percent during the first three months of the year, compared with the same period in 2016, Chinese trade data released in April showed. China said the trade grew even as it stopped buying North Korean coal.

See it?  I assume you did.  But, just in case, let me extract the key parts of each:

-First paragraph:  “the president said China’s trade with North Korea had grown by almost 40 percent in the first quarter.”

-Second paragraph:  “It was not clear where Mr. Trump got his 40 percent figure.”

-Third paragraph:  “China’s trade with the North grew 37.4 percent during the first three months of the year, compared with the same period in 2016”.

Uh……can someone acquaint the top two paragraphs with the third?

In this world, there are three kinds of news.  There’s regular news, fake news and effed up news.

Ms. Perlez wins Paragraphs Of The Day honors for supplying such an excellent example of the third kind.

  • What would drive someone to do something so blatant?
Does she assume everyone is stupid or is it that she is just stupid?
