ATaliban commander close to the negotiations over the release of U.S.Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl told TIME Thursday that the deal made tosecure Bergdahl\’s release has made it more appealing for fightersto capture American soldiers and other high-value targets.
“It\’sbetter to kidnap one person like Bergdahl than kidnapping hundreds ofuseless people,” the commander said, speaking by telephone oncondition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to themedia. “It has encouraged our people. Now everybody will work hardto capture such an important bird.”
Can this possibly be a surprise?
But congratulations are in order. Congratulations to President Obama for finding a way to take the exploding VA scandal right off the front pages – by making the most despicable, cynical “deal” imaginable, involving people who are guaranteed to go out and kill as many people as they can – with a special joy, no doubt, if they are Americans. And now, as an extra-added attraction, giving radical Islam an even stronger impetus to capture US soldiers they can then trade to regain their most prolific murderers and put them back to work.
Misson accomplished.
