From Naomi Jagoda’s article at thehill.com:
Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) renewed her call for impeaching President Trump during Saturday’s Tax March in Washington.
“I don’t respect this president. I don’t trust this president. He’s not working in the best interests of the American people,” Waters said.
“I will fight every day until he is impeached,” she added, before leading the crowd in chants of “impeach 45.”
Waters has been among the most vocal critics of Trump in Congress, and she has repeatedly signaled that she would be willing to impeach the president.
Days after Trump took office, Waters said her “greatest desire is to lead [Trump] right into impeachment.” In March, Waters argued that Trump should be impeached if evidence emerged that he colluded with the Russian government. Later in the month, she tweeted “get ready for impeachment.”
To sum up: a congressperson who has done little or nothing for her constituents and who is the subject of major ethics investigations (she has been cited as one of the most corrupt house members in congress)…
… loudly, conspicuously, leads a march against the just-elected President, using insulting language, and reaffirms she has no respect for him and will not work with him (who does that hurt? Trump or her constituents)?
Waters’ bravado concerning impeachment demonstrates ignorance of the impeachment process, stupidity or both: to impeach requires a majority vote of the House of Representatives – which, due in no small part to people like Maxine Waters, Republicans now control with a 238 – 193 majority. Does that look like a viable opportunity for impeachment to you?
But as for Waters herself? She is in the safest of safe seats. She will win re-election to her district every time, no matter what she says and no matter how she comports herself. If she died the week before the next election, her ghost would win against any Republican.
And therein lies the greatest problem Democrats have: people like Maxine Waters, in safe seats that they will not lose by making comments like the ones noted above…but whose behavior is guaranteed to jeopardize Democrats in seats that are not safe – which is why Republicans have taken over government in this country.
They are their party’s worst enemies.
