Apropos of nothing political….
I don’t eat red meat. Actually I don’t eat cows, pigs and sheep (there are reasons for this – not physical ones – which I may blog about at some point, but not today).
But if I ever decide to reverse field and start eating this kind of food again, one of the first things I’ll have will be a nice, big, juicy pastrami sandwich on rye, with lots of mustard….
…which brings me to an article by the New York Post’s Lauren Rothman, which identifies (to her, anyway), the best sandwiches in America.
And what is #1? Exactly what I would be eating: a nice, big, juicy pastrami sandwich on rye, with lots of mustard – from that iconic mecca of kosher-style sandwiches, Katz’s deli on Houston Street (HOUSE-ton, not USE-ton, you non-New Yorkers) on Manhattan’s lower east side.
How good is this sandwich? Well, here’s the picture. See if it doesn’t make you hungry:

God that looks delicious.
Incidentally, if you ever saw the movie “When Harry Met Sally”, Katz’s is where Meg Ryan fakes an orgasm to the bemusement-then-consternation of Billy Crystal, and the older lady sitting nearby (played perfectly by Estelle Reiner, Carl’s wife and Rob’s mother) says “I’ll have what she’s having”.
OK, now back to politics – which this, of course, has nothing to do with. If it did the sandwich would be baloney, there would be twice as much, and it would be between two slices of whole cloth.
