It didn’t happen, but what if?
As you may be aware, Maine is one of two states (Nebraska is the other) which does not give the popular vote winner every one of its electoral votes.
Both of them give two electoral votes to the popular vote winner and one to the winner of each congressional district
Nebraska has three congressional districts and a total of five electoral votes. Donald Trump the state in total and every district so he got all five.
But Maine? Hillary Clinton won the the state in total, but only one of the two districts. Therefore Ms. Clinton got three of Maine’s electoral votes and Trump one.
If you think the anti-Trump “protesters” (actually, protesters violent assaulters, vandals, arsonists and, generally, rioters) are, er, making themselves known now, think of what they would be doing if Trump won 270 – 268. Or, worse still, if Maine’s one vote to Trump created a 269-269 tie, which turned a Clinton victory into the constitutionally-dictated roll-call vote of the House of Representatives…which is dominated by Republicans.
Maybe this split electoral vote thingie isn’t such a great idea after all.
