LIKE TAKING KAOPECTATE FOR CONSTIPATION

What would you think of a doctor who told you to take what appeared to be the exact wrong medication for your condition?

Not much, I’m betting.

So what do you say about the Democrat Party, which just saw its reliably liberal/left – but at least somewhat willing to work with the other side of the aisle – candidate lose to a maverick Republican espousing a succession of what most people would consider conservative positions (deportations, ObamaCare repeal/replacement, renegotiate NAFTA, etc.) deciding it should lurch even further left?

From Julie Bykowicz’s article for the Associated Press:

The defeat of Hillary Clinton, an experienced Washington politician who sought common ground with Republicans, could make it more likely that the party will turn to its liberal wing as it grapples with its future. That’s best represented by Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, whom Clinton defeated in a long primary, and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, a pull-no-punches progressive darling.

The Democratic Party should remold itself in the image of Warren and Sanders “and offer a systemic critique of the rigged economy” that appeals to the same voters who put Trump over the top, said Adam Green, co-founder of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee.

Green said Democrats must make a “conscious decision to separate themselves from the corporate villains who are to a large extent funding their campaigns.”

If the Democrat Party, which, during its years-long leftward lurch, has lost the White House, the Senate, the House of Representatives, most governorships and most statehouses, decides the answer is to even further marginalize itself to the left, that would be like…

…taking kaopectate for constipation.

Exactly the wrong thing to do.

Now:  do you think the Democrat Party, as presently constructed, is going to flat-out reject this idea, as it most certainly should?

Don’t bet on it.
