What does a hardline Black activist say about a “Black leader” who you consider a sellout, happy to hold out his hand and have it filled, no matter who is doing the filling?
I may have an answer for you.
I just read an article by Glen Ford, writing for the Florida Courier, a weekly publication directed to Black readership. It seems Mr. Ford does not think al sharpton is on board with the Black Lives Matter movement. Mr. Ford feels sharpton\’s sellout is that he is way too accommodating to the establishment. (FYI: he has little use for Oprah Winfrey as well, for the same reason).
Here is an excerpt from Mr. Ford\’s article. But there is a lot more, so please use this link to read it all:
AlSharpton, a highly ecumenical prostitute who has serviced clientsranging from the most rightwing, down-and-dirty Republicans (RogerStone, 2003-04); to plutocrats from Hell (Michael Bloomberg); to hiscurrent (but now endangered) hookup as the snitching King Ratand activism-deflator for a corporate Democratic president; a man whohas lain down with whole kennels of flee-bitten dogs, now defames as”tricks” the young people who stood up to militarized police anddared to make grassroots politics a reality in 21st century America.
Thejackleg preacher with the signature pimp-adour hairstyle – whoseself-proclaimed heroes are not MLK or Malcolm X, but sports gangsterDon King and entertainer James Brown – appears to believe the youngorganizers are as morally debased and materially obsessed as himself;that self-aggrandizement is their real motivation. “And they playon your ego. \’Oh, you young and hip, you\’re full of fire. You\’rethe new face.\’ All the stuff that they know will titillate yourears. That\’s what a pimp says to a ho.”
Sharptonis actually confessing to his own deepest yearnings.
Theyouth have scoped Sharpton\’s whole card: he is a fraud, anactivist-for-hire who has found his niche in the bosom of the beast.
Now there\’s a man who does not like al sharpton.
Interesting, isn\’t it, that – albeit for wholly different reasons – Republicans/conservatives and a hardliner like Glen Ford come to the same conclusion about execrable al.
Wouldn\’t you love to see Glen Ford on sharpton\’s MSNBC show, debating this issue? In fact, I challenge al sharpton to have Mr. Ford on his show, to debate the Black Lives Matter movement and how Black “leaders”, such as himself, have comported themselves as it has progressed.
Tell you what, though: don\’t hold your breath waiting for Ford to get the invitation; it isn\’t coming. sharpton would have to answer to someone his core constituency might like even better than him….and that is exactly what he does not want to happen.
