Jewish actor Mandy Patinkin voiced support for New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani in a video circulated on Instagram on Tuesday, calling Mamdani “a deeply thoughtful human being” who would be “the best NYC mayor imaginable,” adding that he and his family feel this “as New Yorkers” and “as Jews” who want “kindness, compassion and empathy” in politics.
That’s why.
I already knew Patinkin was far left of center politically. That said, as a rule of thumb – whether left or right – I separate my appreciation of a performer’s talent from that performer’s politics.
But when a Jewish actor -Mandel Patinkin is his actual name – sings me the praises of a Jew hating, Israel hating bigot like zohran mamdani and tells me how kind, compassionate and empathic he is, my limit is reached and exceeded.
Bye-bye mandy. I won’t miss you.
