As I am sure you know, Megyn Kelly, who successfully hosted a 9:00PM show on Fox News Channel, is no longer with the network. Ms. Kelly has moved on to NBC (where there are rumors that, among other duties, she will replace Savannah Guthrie on the Today Show – which, if true, could create a maelstrom over there.)
It has been decided that Kelly’s replacement in the plum 9:00PM slot is Tucker Carlson, who, just months ago, was given a 7:00PM show and – as is true of every evening Fox show – blows away the competition. (the latest data show him with 2,913,000 viewers, compared to 1,097,000 for Chris Matthews, his nearest competition.)
At 9:00PM, Carlson will be up against much stronger alternatives then at 7:00PM: Rachel Maddow, the single most watched host of MSNBC’s prime time lineup and CNN’s most-watched host, Anderson Cooper. It will be more than a little interesting to see how he fares against these two…
…as it also will be more than a little interesting to see how Fox makes out with Carlson’s 7:00PM replacement: “The First 100 Days” (of the Trump presidency), hosted by Martha McCallum (after that, who knows?).
I’ll keep an eye out and periodically blog about the numbers as they come in.
