Roy Moore, horse-riding judge and evangelical crusader in Alabama, whose quest to legislate his beliefs on the rest of us managed to lose what should have been a safe Republican seat to Democrat Doug Jones last year, is talking about running again for that seat next year.
Here, via twitter, is Donald Trump Jr.’s advice to Moore:
“You’re literally the only candidate who could lose a GOP seat in pro-Trump, pro-USA ALABAMA. Running for office should never become a business model. If you actually care about #MAGA more than your own ego, it’s time to ride off into the sunset, Judge.”
If I were a Democrat, I would be praying very hard that Roy Moore ignores those words.
Simply stated, Moore is the Democrat Party’s single greatest asset in Alabama, because hard-line conservatives are strong enough there to win him the primary and, as seen last year, his candidacy is distasteful enough to lose the election.
That said, I doubt Moore, who had decided he is on a mission to turn his state – maybe the rest of the world too – into a paradigm of evangelical fervor, will take Trump Jr.’s advice (or anyone else’s but his own).
We’ll soon find out one way or the other.
