THE UNANIMOUS SUPREME COURT DECISION

On February 9, I wrote this:

Yesterday the Supreme Court heard Colorado’s Solicitor General and her people try to convince the Supreme Court that the state (thus any state) had the power to disqualify Donald Trump from the ballot this coming November, on the grounds that he violated the 14th amendment – i.e. he was involved in an insurrection against the United States of America.

The fact that there no actual evidence he did so, and the fact that he has neither been tried and convicted of any such thing?  Who cares.

Hey, if they can hit Trump for almost $90 million dollars on a “rape” case with no evidence, no witnesses, no actual date of rape (not even the year) and which allegedly occurred decades beyond the statute of limitations for everyone else accused of rape, and nail him for fraud on his real estate holdings despite there being no complainants – not one, why not insurrection?  Hey let’s throw in the Lindbergh kidnapping for good measure.

There is no decision yet from the Supreme Court (though I suspect, given the implications for other states, there will be in very little time).

But the assessment of every news venue I have heard or read, from left to right, is that, based on their questions and comments, Supreme Court members – maybe all of them, regardless of political leanings -see this as being the ridiculous, get-Trump farce it is.

We’ll soon find out.

Today, the Supreme Court issued a unanimous decision that states cannot supersede the federal government and disqualify presidential candidates.  That’s right, 9 – 0.

It will be interesting to see how Biden and his people will try to attack this decision.

Will they claim it’s because of a largely Trump-friendly conservative court?  That might be a bit tough, given that every one of the three most left-leaning justices – Kagan, Sotomayor and Jackson – voted exactly the same way as every one of the other justices.

Let’s just say that I am willing to give points for creativity.  Because they’re going to need plenty of it.
