THE QUOTE OF THE DAY

Today\’s Quote Of The Day comes to us from Mark Halperin – a Democrat and regular contributor on MSNBC\’s “Morning Joe” show.

This is what Mr. Halperin had to say about the indictment of Texas Governor Rick Perry, by a Travis County (i.e. hardline Democrat Austin) grand jury, for the “crime” of vetoing an appropriation for the county\’s Public Integrity Unit because Rosemary Lehmberg,  the partisan Democrat slated to head it, was arrested for drunk driving, made an obnoxious fool of herself while in custody, was sentenced to 45 days in jail (my guess is that, if it were you or me, without Democrat connections in that country, we\’d still be cooling our heels in a cell) – but refused to resign.

“Thisis the stupidest thing I\’ve seen, I think, in my entire career. Ihope some judge throws it out right away. It\’s not just kind of funnyand ridiculous, but it\’s an infringement on individual liberty.He\’s got a First Amendment right just cause he\’s governor ofTexas and I think it\’s – like you said, it\’s easy to joke aboutthis, but this is a serious thing. It is ridiculous that he wasindicted for this. Ridiculous.”

Please note that this is the same Public Integrity Unit which also pushed to indict then-U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (the charges were tossed out in 30 minutes – that\’s not a sarcasm, it\’s a fact – once they came before a judge) and Tom DeLay (it cost DeLay his political career, but every charge was BS and every one was thrown out).

It seems that, to the Democrats in Austin, high-profile “Public Integrity” investigations are pretty much a Republican-only enterprise.

This example of “Lawfare” (a cutesy new buzzword, but it really does fit in this instance) is in the process of backfiring big-time on the dim bulbs who thought they were oh so cleverly going to “get” Perry.  So many Democrats have come out against it that they just come across as looking like a bunch of vindictive, small-minded imbeciles, who care more about “gotcha” politics than the governance of their state.

I award Mark Halperin Quote Of The Day honors, not for his bluntness in call the indictment what it is.  I award it to Mr. Halperin for his restraint – i.e. not using the dozen or so profanities I would have used in voicing the same conclusion he did.
