THE QUOTE OF THE DAY

Today’s quote comes to us from the estimable Alan Dershowitz, famed Harvard Law School professor and one of the dwindling number of Democrats who are still what Democrats used to be before their leftward lurch.

As you may be aware, earlier this week Mr. Dershowitz pointed out that Donald Trump and the people around him would be easier to indict in Washington DC than other places because of the ethnic makeup of the city (Black comprise about half the population, and vote Democrat over 90% of the time).’

For this obvious, common sense slice of wisdom, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) called him a “racist”.

Yes, this is the same Alan Dershowitz who has fiercely fought for racial justice his entire life.

Not surprisingly, Mr. Dershowitz had a response to Waters’ idiocy.   Here it is:

“Well, she doesn’t know what she’s talking about. First of all, I wasn’t talking about the grand jury I was talking about the petit jury. Grand jury doesn’t matter. Grand jury will indict a ham sandwich. But if there were to be an indictment it would matter greatly where the trial was. Maxine Waters should know better and does know better… If I’d have said race didn’t matter she would have called me a racist. She throws around the term so loosely and so inappropriately and it weakens her credibility by calling everybody a racist. When she calls real racists racists, nobody is going to believe her… Race matters. Maxine Waters ought to know that and Maxine Waters ought to be ashamed of herself.”

I award Alan Dershowitz Quote Of The Day honors for two reasons:  1) For saying what he did per se, and 2) for saying it with so much more restraint than I could have if it were me.

One other thing:    If I were a Republican strategist, I would pray every day that Maxine Waters just keeps talking.  Because, due to comments like this one , and so many others, she now is one of the greatest assets the Republican Party has.
