Today\’s quote comes to us from Iowa Republican Rep. Steven King – who, it should be noted, is supporting Ted Cruz for the presidency.
Here is what Mr. King had to say about Mr. Cruz\’s primary rival, Donald Trump:
“He has, from a regular person\’s perspective, unlimitedresources and he\’s willing to use whatever access he has in order to get theendorsements that he wants.
“Among those are the assets that we would naturally think of,including the attraction that might be for, oh who knows, a reality TV show, ajob in the Trump machine.
“There\’s fame and fortune, and there\’s also thefear factor of retribution, which Donald Trump has not been shy aboutdelivering against people. So all of that affects a person\’s judgment underthose circumstances.
“I know things, but I\’m saying what is appropriate, so thatpeople will know enough, and I\’m wanting to keep this on as high a plane as Ican, but I don\’t think my conscience can allow me from not saying anything.”
Is Mr. King telling us that Donald Trump has bribed people like, for example, Sarah Palin – who, increasingly, is the Evelyn Nesibit of American politics (i.e. hugely famous for years, due to something someone else did which involved her, then fading back into obscurity) and Jerry Falwell Jr. (how are the contributions to Liberty University making out now that dad is gone?) into “endorsing” him?
That\’s the way his quote reads. And, while I do not know if there is any truth to it, the intrigue level it raises is high enough to generate “Quote Of The Day honors.
And the day, if it ever comes, that Rep. King elaborates in any meaningful way about this, is the day he\’ll probably win again.
