Today’s quote comes to us from Delaware U.S. Senator Chris Coons.
On Neil Cavuto’s Fox News Channel show last night, Coons gave us this preview of President Biden’s State Of The Union address:
“Joe Biden will talk about how he successfully brought us together, laid the groundwork for a great recovery.”
If you are rubbing your eyes in disbelief, I don’t blame you a bit.
Let’s start with “he successfully brought us together”. Do you in any way feel the country has come together under Joe Biden? If so please show me the evidence. Because other than the Vietnam era I don’t recall any time when we have been further divided.
And then there is that “recovery” claim. In this regard, I could just tell you to think about what you spend for everyday items versus how much they cost a few years ago and that would probably end the issue. But I will make things even clearer by referencing this chart, from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which shows you the actual difference in cost for everyday items through January, 2024…
…and, in these two cases, where they have gone since:
-Milk has gone from $3.47 a gallon to $3.96 a 14% increase (and has since risen to $4.36 a gallon – an increase of 26%)
-Gas has gone from $2.33 a gallon to $3.22, with an in-between bump in mid 2022 to over $5.00 a gallon (and has since risen to $3.40 a gallon. – an increase of 46%).
I selected milk and gas because they, obviously, are two major staples of our everyday expenses. But please look at the rest of the items as well, and you will see they fare no better.
I therefore award Chris Coons Quote Of The Day (dis)honors for doing exactly what Joe Biden will be doing tonight…assuming he is capable of getting through the entire State Of The Union address: looking us in the eye and lying to our faces.
