Today’s quote comes to us from Rep. Al Green, the 9 term Democrat congressperson who represents Texas’ 9th district.
While on Fox News Sunday this past week, Rep. Green was asked the following question by Griff Jenkins:
“Specifically, [GOP Minority Leader] McCarthy is going to put forth a bill, if he’s elected speaker, to stop this 87,000-strong army of IRS agents that have a lot of Americans, middle-class, tax-paying Americans, many who perhaps live in your district, worried that they’re headed for undue criticism and undue audits and the like. Do you want to respond to that?”
And here was Rep. Green’s response:
“And that will bring down inflation. That will bring down gas prices. That will bring down the price of food and bread markets.”
Adding an incredible 87,000 – yes, 87,000, that is not a typo – IRS agents to go after taxpayers will bring down inflation???? Lower the price of gas???? Lower the price of food?????
How about ending all wars and creating world peace, Al? And making everyone independently wealthy. And curing cancer too? If it can do what you said, I suppose it can do those things too.
I award Al Green Quote Of The Day “honors” for making one of the most demonstrably idiotic comments that you will ever hear on a national TV show – and that takes some doing.
Oh, one other thing: Rep. Green won his last election by 76% – 22%. There is no way he can lose this district. When you are a locked-tight winner, you can say things as idiotic as his comment about inflation, gas prices and food, knowing it won’t hurt you a bit on election day. So you say them.
