Today’s quote comes to us from the always-political-and-nothing-else, increasingly bizarre Speaker Of The House, Nancy Pelosi.
Here is her latest – an “explanation of why angry Trump supporters gathered in Washington D.C.:
“It has been an epiphany for the world to see that there are people in our country led by this president, for the moment, who have chosen their whiteness over democracy”
Can anyone show me even one instance of anyone at that rally, or participating in the disgraceful incursion afterwards, with a word to say or a button or banner to show, indicating this had anything to do with race?
In September, 1775, over 245 years ago, Samuel Johnson famously said “(false) patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel”.
Now we have Nancy Pelosi invoking a false charge of racism, because, just as patriotism was used by some in pre-revolutionary America, so is racism used by some today. Why? Because the people invoking it know it is an issue-ender. In today’s world, if you are called a racist you are tarnished forever, regardless of whether the accusation has any validity (which, in this case, it does not).
I therefore award Nancy Pelosi Quote Of The Day “honors” for still having the savvy to understand this reality….and the politics-above everything-else cynicism to exploit it.
