OK, we get it. President Trump has an ax to grind with Bette Midler and Chuck Schumer.
We know this, because his latest triple-T (Trump Twitter Tantrum) tells us that Midler is a “washed up psycho” and Schumer is a “creep”.
Look, I appreciate the reason that President Trump resorts to twitter – i.e. media in this country have never come close to giving him a fair shake, and never will.
But that is a reason to use this resource as a way of getting a serious message out about policy, or talking about issues (e.g. the huge Clinton collusion scandal) most media have foregone their journalistic integrity in an effort to keep the public ignorant of.
It is NOT a reason to engage in childish, sandbox-quality name calling.
I have given up hope that Mr. Trump will stop doing this. He seems to view it as a signature personal attribute – even though the truth is that every such tweet diminishes both the office he holds and him personally.
All I can do is wonder whether his next set of tweets will not be even worse than the last one.
One other thing: admonishing the President for putting these kinds of tweets up does not – repeat, not – mean I disagree with some of the sentiments he expresses.
Chuck Schumer, whom I used to have a good deal of respect for, has turned into a world-class jerk. Trump’s tweet was made only after Schumer called him “dumb” and made a statement that intentionally damaged our negotiating position with Mexico.
But calling him a schoolyard name on twitter does nothing but edify Schumer’s behavior, by doing pretty much the same thing he did. Where’s the benefit in that?

“every such tweet diminishes both the office he holds and him personally.”
In your eyes [and mine] but I think his base loves it.
I don’t use twitter, but isn’t most of it just trolling like Trump uses it?
