Thank you Abdel el-Sisi and the Egyptian army.
As you may remember, President Obama worked triple overtime to remove Hosni Mubarak from office. This resulted in Egypt electing Mohamed Morsi, a hamas-supporting Muslim brotherhood fanatic, to become President.
But when Morsi decided to govern as if what limited freedom Egyptians have ended the day he took office, the army stepped in. It undid the damage President Obama wrought on Egypt by deposing Morsi, and installing the much more Hosni Mubarak-like Abdel el-Sisi as President.
And el-Sisi, as a reasonably honest broker wishing peace on Egypt\’s borders with both Israel and hamas-controlled Gaza*, was able to talk Israel and hamas into an open-ended cease-fire.
In other words, el-Sisi accomplished what the feckless President Barack Obama and the equally feckless Secretary Of State John Kerry could not.
Which means that, at current, Egypt is a more significant player in the Middle East than the United States of America.
We can learn a lot from el-Sisi and Egypt.
We can unlearn a lot from President Obama and Secretary Kerry.

*Reminding readers, again, that Israel is not the only country which borders Gaza; Egypt does too. And Egypt keeps its border just as sealed from Gaza as Israel does – a little factoid that much of the world either is ignorant of or ignores.
