If you have a little age (like me), you might remember Sgt. Schultz from Hogan\’s Heroes. If so, you probably also remember his signature line: “I saw nussing! Nussing!”
Well, these days we have a different Schultz, whose fund-raising capabilities would be perfect for the revised version of that line in this blog\’s title.
From Evan Gahr\’s blog at dailycaller.com:
In a virtually unnoticed YouTube video,Schultz says he is now too much of a busy beaver to head Americans for a StrongMiddle Class. After all, last month he started a newshow on the Russian government-controlled television channel,RT America.
“I gotta be realistic with my time. I mean [right now] I amspread pretty thin.”
The video was posted Jan. 30, the day after Americans for aStrong Middle Class, which Schultz had envisioned as a liberal counter-part toKarl Rove’s American Crossroads, filed its first FEC report.
The super PAC, which boasted a tony headquarters at a downtownWashington UPS Store, reported receivinga $25 donation and a $100 loan during its first three months of operation.
Even more impressive, the group announced that it owed$10,345.44 for legal services and $3,000 to a web design company.
It disbursed zero dollars.
What happened to this guy?
Just a couple of years ago he was something of a prime time star on MSNBC – to the extent that anyone could be, on a network that spends its days and nights eating the hated Fox News Channel\’s dust. Then MSNBC demoted him to a weekend slot which amounted to the Potter\’s Field of cable news. Then it brought him back at either 5PM or 6PM weekdays – I forget which..not that it mattered, since he couldn\’t generate any ratings there. Then MSNBC dumped him altogether. Now he has a gig with RT (Russia Today), which has all the credibility of Charlie The Tuna.
And, if that were not enough, be sure to read Evan Gahr\’s link to the breach of partnership trial. The word “disaster” doesn\’t even begin to do it justice.
Not that any of this may matter to Mr. Schultz, who managed to parlay the TV career you just read about, and a much more successful radio career, into a fortune estimated at about $11.5 million dollars. But you have to admit it is interesting to see how little any of his personal money-making prowess translated into generating funds to fight Karl Rove and the hated right wingers at American Crossroads.
But do keep at it, Ed. Who knows? A few more years of your attention to this cause and the donations might just hit triple figures.
