PELOSI JUMPS THE SHARK

For years I have talked about Nancy Pelosi’s diminished mental acuity – not to be insulting or sarcastic, but as a matter of genuine concern.  She loses trains of thought, stumbles over words and sometimes makes no sense at all.

And now, with her “jump the shark” moment yesterday, I have to wonder if she’s lost it completely.

From Heather Caygle’s article at politico.com:

Speaker Nancy Pelosi told senior Democrats that she’d like to see President Donald Trump “in prison” as she clashed with House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler in a meeting on Tuesday night over whether to launch impeachment proceedings.

Pelosi met with Nadler (D-N.Y.) and several other top Democrats who are aggressively pursuing investigations against the president, according to multiple sources. Nadler and other committee leaders have been embroiled in a behind-the-scenes turf battle for weeks over ownership of the Democrats’ sprawling investigation into Trump.

Nadler pressed Pelosi to allow his committee to launch an impeachment inquiry against Trump — the second such request he’s made in recent weeks only to be rebuffed by the California Democrat and other senior leaders. Pelosi stood firm, reiterating that she isn’t open to the idea of impeaching Trump at this time.

“I don’t want to see him impeached, I want to see him in prison,” Pelosi said, according to multiple Democratic sources familiar with the meeting. Instead of impeachment, Pelosi still prefers to see Trump defeated at the ballot box and then prosecuted for his alleged crimes, according to the sources.

Other Democrats said Pelosi’s comment wasn’t that surprising given her previous criticisms of the president, including saying Trump “is engaged in a cover-up,” that his staff and family should stage an intervention and that the president’s actions “are villainous to the Constitution of the United States.”

Is this really what the Democrat “strategy” is?  Are Schumer, Durbin and Hoyer really on board (in answer:  have any of them backtracked on Pelosi’s attacks)?

OK, let’s think about the consequences.

During Donald Trump’s two-plus years as President (a partial list):

-Our unemployment level has dropped to near all-time lows.  And this was done in the face of 8 – count ’em – 8 interest rates by the Fed over his two-plus years in office (Obama had a virtually interest-free ride throughout his 8 years).

-He has successfully gotten NATO’s European countries to start paying their share of the costs.

-He is in the process of revamping NAFTA in a way that is far more beneficial than the original version.

-He is negotiating with North Korea on denuclearization and gotten the North and South to talk for the first time in 65 years.

-He is finally addressing the trade/tariff imbalance with China (something that even Trump-haters like the New York Times’ Thomas Friedman agree has to be done).

-He is treating Israel as a valued ally instead of an impediment we’re stuck with.

-He is trying (in the face of massive Democrat opposition) to address the crisis at our southern border.

And what is the Democrat response?  An argument over whether to impeach President Trump for collusion the mueller report says did not occur and obstruction the mueller report says there is insufficient evidence to pursue… or – now, via Nancy Pelosi’s latest absurdity – to toss him in prison.

Do Pelosi, Nadler and their hard-left, Trump-hating pals realize that a great many voters – including, I am 100% certain, a great many increasingly disillusioned mainstream Democrats – would like these people to focus on legislation that benefits the country, not a frontal attack on President Trump?

How do you think this plays out on election day, Nancy?  Jerrold?

What happens when President Trump campaigns on unemployment dropping to near all-time lows overall, and actual all-time lows for Blacks, Latinos and Women, while you show them little other than four years of trying to “get” Trump?  Which do you think is going to resonate more?

Donald Trump has major problems with his mouth and his twitter rantings – in which he uses his “Queensbonics”-oriented combination of sarcasm and insults.  I make no bones about this; never have.

But he also is getting things done, both domestically and internationally.  And that is going to be both his message in 2020, and his counterpoint to Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, et al.,  forgoing their legislative responsibilities and, instead, giving us their imitation of Captain Ahab and Stubb obsessively going after the Great White Donald.

I would say that this is becoming a real problem for Democrats.  But, with Nancy Pelosi’s almost weekly escalation of rhetoric- now including prison – it seems evident we are far past that point.

Where is this going?  What is the actual end game?  This has become too bizarre to even hazard a guess.

  • Again, you are to kind Sir. Maybe ‘shark bait’ would solve our Congressional problem. Nancy (hear me roar) Pelosi: it is difficult to offer any respect for someone in her capacity and expected service in our constitutional republic. What in the wide world of sports is she doing? Is she is being completely candid and dare I say honest but what the hay does she contribute as Speaker of the House? I find it hard to believe the House actually agrees with this person!?
