For months, a humanitarian aid bill providing services for the illegals streaming over our southern border was held up by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi – with major support from her Democrat cohorts – because it didn’t contain a bunch of Democrat-preferred additional gimmes and accommodations to the illegals. Even after the senate rejected her version of the bill Pelosi was holding it up.
Then that picture of the man and his daughter, laying dead in the water, showed up. And suddenly Ms. Peolosi and her pals noticed there was a “crisis” (isn’t that the description these same people were referring to as a Republican-concocted fantasy?)
From John Parkinson’s article at ABC News:
Pelosi caves, progressive Democrats angry, as House passes humanitarian border bill
Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on Thursday her party will use immigration reform as a “battle cry” going forward, after the House passed a $4.6 billion emergency humanitarian border bill over the angry objections of progressive Democrats, sending it to President Donald Trump for his signature.
Pelosi said she “reluctantly” urged Democrats to pass emergency spending bill, approved in a bipartisan vote Wednesday by the GOP-controlled Senate, that would send humanitarian relief to the southern border, reversing course and abandoning a Democratic effort to amend the Senate version.
“The children come first. At the end of the day, we have to make sure that the resources needed to protect the children are available,” Pelosi wrote in a “Dear Colleague” letter Thursday afternoon. “Therefore, we will not engage in the same disrespectful behavior that the Senate did in ignoring our priorities. In order to get resources to the children fastest, we will reluctantly pass the Senate bill.”
That decision was immediately met with criticism from progressives Democrats, who called the package “entirely insufficient to protect vulnerable children in our care.”
Poor Nancy. Poor set-upon Nancy.
For all this time, she held up congress’s ability to provide basic services to illegals, especially children – while using it as a political cudgel to attack Republicans for being heartless insensitive pigs.
But then, after that picture of the father and daughter emerged, when it looked like our wonderful “neutral” media were about to finally start talking about how long the bill was ruminating in the house instead of being voted on? Suddenly the “non-crisis” border situation became a top priority – with Republicans blamed for the hold-up, of course.
If that doesn’t tell you that these children do not mean a damn thing to Pelosi and her pals, other than their political value, I don’t know what would.
One other thing: in case you think for even one second that ABC News’ John Parkinson wrote this article in a neutral, bipartisan way, please be advised that it contains a total of 13 quotes from politicians of both sides: 12 of them from Democrats (6 from Pelosi alone) and 1 from Mitch McConnell.
A controversial bill, and the article gives 12 out of 13 quotes to one side? Yep, that’s “neutral bipartisan” reporting all right.
