Maxine Waters, a house member from an eminently safe Democrat district in California, says she will boycott Donald Trump’s speech to congress this evening.
Now we find out that Rep. Eliot Engel, from an eminently safe Democrat district in New York, says he will attend, but will not be in the aisle to shake the President’s hand – the first time in his 29 years as a house member that he has avoided doing so.
This petty crap will have no effect on Waters and Engel. There is nothing short of changing parties that they could do to lose their seats.
But to Democrats in vulnerable districts, and Democrats who hope to unseat vulnerable Republicans, Democrats pulling petty crap like this might cost enough votes to make them losers instead of winners.
Sometimes I think the biggest problem the Democrat Party has is incumbents who, electorally speaking, don’t have a problem.
