IF THIS POLL IS ACCURATE…..

Warning:  the poll that will be referenced in this blog is from a Republican source.  And there is little doubt that Republicans would like the Democrat presidential primary fight to be tooth and nail for as long as possible.

With those caveats in mind, see what your fascination level is with this, excerpted from Elliot Smilowitz\’s article at thehill.com:

The Washington Free Beacon/TargetPoint Consulting pollreleased Friday shows the two candidates even at 45 percent each in Nevada.

A December Gravis poll of the state showed Clinton leadingby 23 percentage points. At times last year, Clinton led Sanders by as many as54 points in Nevada.

Clinton\’s campaign had expressed concerns this week thatSanders could be gaining ground in Nevada.

“You have a caucus-style format, and he\’ll have the momentumcoming out of New Hampshire, presumably, so there\’s a lot of reasons he shoulddo well,” campaign spokesman Brian Fallon said Tuesday, adding that the 80percent of voters in the state are white. “There\’s reason to believe the racewill tighten even there.”

Interesting quote by Hillary spokesperson Brian Fallon.  Exactly the kind of thing Ms. Clinton could never in a million years have anticipated, even just a couple of months ago.

The idea was that, yeah, Bernie might do OK in Iowa, and we know he\’ll do well in New Hampshire.  But when we clobber his backside in Nevada and South Carolina, the bubble will burst and, barring a late entry from Joe Biden, it will be clear sailing to the nomination.

Well, if this poll is accurate – I again emphasize that there are good reasons to be suspicious – the only bubble up for bursting is Hillary Clinton\’s.

Put another way, for Hillary Clinton, Nevada and South Carolina have evolved from Clinton afterthoughts to Clinton imperatives.  IfMs. Clinton does not win big in both places, her campaign has a very serious potential to crash and burn….or should I say crash and Bern.

Just a week and a half before we find out.  Fasten your seat belts…
