A good many years ago, I watched a TV special, with a number of old-time comedians performing, one after the other, in front of a live audience…while the others were in a back room talking about the comedian performing.
One of the comedians was Shelly Berman. And while he was performing, when the others were talking about him, someone in the back room asked “is there anything good anyone can say about Shelly Berman?”.
After the rest laughed and – jokingly, of course – indicated they couldn’t think of anything, all of a sudden Henny Youngman, then well into his 80’s, and semi-engaged until then, looked up and said, presumably in answer, “His brother was worse” -which caused the rest of the room to break up with laughter.
Yesterday, Special Counsel Robert Hur spent about 5 hours testifying/defending himself regarding his report on Joe Biden’s possession of many classified documents, accumulated over decades of his time as a Senator, Vice President and President.
And, apart from lying that the Hur report exonerated Biden from any wrongdoing – which was a lie; it absolutely, unequivocally did not – the only thing Democrats offered in his defense was attacks on Donald Trump. That is, their answer to what Biden did wrong was, in essence, “Oh yeah, well Trump is worse”.
Is that supposed to explain why Biden broke the law early and often regarding possession of classified documents?
Is that supposed to explain away the fact that Hur found Biden to be unconvictable – not because he was innocent but because a jury would pity him as “an elderly man with a poor memory”?
Does that address the logical conclusion that Biden’s condition means he not only should stand down as a candidate for four more years, but is not competent to serve out the rest of his current term?
Evidently, the Democrat strategy (hope might be a better word) is that it does; that attacking Trump somehow explains it all away.
If Henny Youngman knew better, if he knew that kind of response was nothing more than a comical punch line, maybe we should too.
