I knew that, at some point, I would be writing a blog like this. It was inevitable.
When you have an incident that opportunistic activists declare racist in nature, and the “perpetrator” of this declared racism is not immediately screwed, blued and tattooed, they are going to keep up the pressure until it happens.
So it is with the Michael Brown shooting in Ferguson, Missouri.
Earlier this week, activists disrupted a St. Louis Symphony Orchestra event by unfurling banners and chanting a demand that there be “Justice For Michael Brown” (not justice per se, justice for Michael Brown).
And, on Monday evening, protesters were chanting the same outside of Busch Stadium, where the St. Louis Cardinals were playing a post-season game against the L.A. Dodgers. Again, there were no chants for justice – i.e. a full, fair investigation with evidence that would yield reasonable findings – but “Justice For Michael Brown”.
But who are the racists?
To find out, let\’s go over the parts of this incident which are not in dispute:
-Police officer Darren Wilson is White. Michael Brown, the young man he shot and killed, was Black.
-Michael Brown was about 6\’ 4″ tall and weighed about 300 pounds – far taller and far heavier than officer Wilson.
-Brown had just robbed a convenience store of a box of Swisher Sweets cigars (retail value of about $50), and roughed up the owner/clerk who tried to stop him from leaving without paying. (NOTE: Swisher Sweets are often used for marijuana, because it has very loosely packed tobacco which is easily removed and replaced with it. The autopsy showed that Michael Brown had marijuana in his system.)
-Brown and his friend, Dorian Johnson, were calling attention to themselves by walking in the street, when officer Wilson saw them, stopped the police car, opened the window and told them to get on the sidewalk.
-Johnson, who gave an eye-witness account of what happened which has been used by protesters demanding “Justice For Michael Brown” ever since, lied about the events of that day: he falsely claimed they met up when Brown was walking home…and only admitted he was with Brown in the convenience store once the surveillance tape showed him there.
-Darren Wilson has been a police officer for 6 years and – unless the police are lying about his record (which even the protesters have not, to my knowledge claimed) – has never had a complaint filed against him in that time, racial or otherwise.
-There is not one account, not even by Brown\’s friend Dorian Johnson, indicating Wilson used any derogatory racial language to Brown or in any way referenced his color.
Take a good look at those facts. Then tell me what makes this a racist incident. Can you find anything at all?
The one and only thing that inherently has anything to do with race is that Darren Wilson is White and Michael Brown was Black.
Therefore, the one and only basis for calling this an act of racism is Wilson\’s skin color: i.e. the fact that a White police officer engaged a Black suspect, by definition, “proved” the police officer was a racist and his actions were the result of his racism.
In other words, in the eyes of the “Justice For Michael Brown” crowd, since Darren Wilson is White he inherently is a racist. His skin color ends the issue.
Asking one more time: who are the racists?
