DEBBIE WASSERMAN SCHULTZ: BOOB-BAITING THE BUBBAS

Ken Berwitz

Boob-baiting the bubbas.  This expression, which came from the eminently quotable Daniel Patrick Moynahan, means talking stupidity to people on the theory that they are stupid enough to buy it.

With that, I will put up an exchange which took place, yesterday, between CNN\’s Jake Tapper and Democratic National Committee chairperson Debbie Wasserman Schultz:

TAPPER:  “Hillary Clinton lost to Bernie Sanders in New Hampshire by22 percentage points, the biggest victory in a contested Democratic Primarythere since John F. Kennedy.  But it looks as though Clintonand Sanders are leaving the Granite State with the same number of delegates intheir pockets because Clinton has the support of New Hampshire\’ssuperdelegates, these party insiders.  What do you tellvoters who are new to the process, who says this makes them feel like it’s allrigged?”

SCHULTZ:  “Well, let me just make sure that I can clarify exactly whatwas available during the primaries in Iowa and in New Hampshire. The unpledgeddelegates are a separate category. The only thing available on the ballot in aprimary and a caucus is the pledged delegates. Those that are tied to thecandidates that they are pledged to support and they receive a proportionalnumber of delegates going into, going into our convention.

“Unpledged delegates exist really to make sure thatparty leaders and elected officials don\’t have to be in a position where theyare running against grassroots activists. We are as a Democratic Party reallyhighlight and emphasize inclusiveness and diversity at our convention, and sowe want to give every opportunity to grassroots activists and diverse, committed Democrats to be able to participate, attend, and be a delegate at theconvention. And so we separate out those, those unpledged delegates to makesure that there isn\’t competition between them.”

TAPPER: “I\’m not sure that that answer wouldsatisfy an anxious young voter…”

Bottom of Form

As you may be aware (or, even if you aren\’t, as you may have guessed, given that Debbie Wasserman Schultz co-chaired Hillary Clinton\’s 2008 election campaign), the superdelegate count is hugely in favor of Hillary Clinton.

How huge?  How about 394 to 44.  That is huge with a capital H U G E.

In other words, The Democrat apparatus, which Ms. Wasserman Schultz certainly had something to do with, is not only beyond-belief skewed in favor of Hillary Clinton, but – based on the polling data and the results in Iowa and New Hampshire – bears no commonality with what Democrat voters want.

That is supposed to be “inclusive”?  Stacking the deck in one candidate\’s favor, even though the party faithful don\’t feel that way?  Heck, why not allow Republicans in too.

This, folks, is boob-baiting the bubbas.  I wonder how many Democrat voters it will be successful with.
