CHICAGO “STRICT GUN CONTROL” UPDATE”

Here is the latest from Chicago – which has what some feel are the strictest gun control laws of any major city in the country.

Inthe weekend’s most recent nonfatal shooting, a man was seriouslywounded in a shooting in the South Shore neighborhood.

The23-year-old man was shot in the leg in the 7400 block of South Dantein a “possible drive-by,” police said. He was taken to StrogerHospital in serious condition.

Atleast 24 other people have been shot across the city since 6:30 p.m.Friday.

It is indisputable that Chicago\’s stricter-than-strict gun control laws control the use of guns……among people who obey the law, that is.  But do they control the use of guns among people who don\’t?  The answer can be seen in the above excerpt.

There is an old saying:  “If you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns”.  True then, true now.   No gun ever jumped up and spontaneously shot by itself.  A gun is only as dangerous as the person in possession of it.

So if you want to protect people from guns, you have to make it worth the while of people who have them – whether legally or illegally – not to use them.  As this weekend (and others – for example,  over 50 shootings – 16 fatal – over the July 4th weekend alone) makes eminently clear, whatever laws the city has to accomplish this result are not doing the job.

With this in mind, coupled with the fact that the vast majority of shootings in Chicago are by people with illegally obtained guns…

…how about we stop sticking it to legal gun owners for a moment or two, and address the illegal gun owners?

Does that make sense to you?  It certainly does to me.
