BARBRA STREISAND: PLAGIARIST?

Barbra Streisand is putting out a new album – her first in a good many years.

And, being the dutifully left-wing anti-Trumper she is, it contains a “new” song, called “Don’t Lie To Me”, which is a frontal attack on the president.

Is this a problem?  Nope.  Ms. Streisand is perfectly entitled to her views and to write a song about them.

The problem is that, apparently, she isn’t the one who wrote the song.

Compare the lyrics from Streisand’s “new” song to those from “Beds Are Burning”, which was originally recorded by the Australian group, Midnight Oil.

Streisand’s lyrics:

How do you sleep when the world keeps turning…
How do you sleep when the world is burning

Midnight Oil’s lyrics:

How can we dance when our earth is turning
How do we sleep while our beds are burning

Uh….whoops.

That’s roughly equivalent to a “new” Broadway show opening, called “My Fair Woman”, with lyrics like “I have often strolled, down this block before” and “Get me to the temple on time”.

Well, you can’t say Ms. Streisand has lost her gift for comedy, even if it is unintentional.

Of course, Midnight Oil might not see the humor…..
