I read these opening paragraphs from Stefanie Eschenbacher’s article for Reuters, with absolute disbelief. See how you react:
Mexican and Salvadoran officials expressed concern and sadness on Tuesday after U.S. President Donald Trump announced plans to phase out a popular program that shields hundreds of thousands of young unauthorized migrants from deportation.
Mexico’s deputy foreign minister, Carlos Sada, said the Trump’s decision created “anxiety, anguish and fear.” The change could affect some 625,000 Mexican nationals, a majority of the nearly 800,000 young men and women who were brought into the United States illegally as children and are protected under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
“They are exceptional. … This is as emotional for the United States as for Mexico,” Sada said at a news conference immediately following the announcement to end the program. He urged for a quick solution to the uncertainty that “dreamers,” as they are commonly called, now face in their adopted home.
Migrants who opt to return to Mexico will be welcomed with “open arms,” Sada said, offering them assistance with work, finances and education.
They’re exceptional? You will welcome them with open arms?
No, Senor Sada, you will not welcome them, open arms or otherwise. You will welcome them BACK.
See, these people, if they come back, are not immigrants. They are citizens who are being repatriated.
Now: how about you tell us why they left? Why these so-called “dreamers” are in the USA?
You don’t know? Let me help you out. They are here because their families found it preferable to illegally cross the border and live in the shadows, fearing deportation daily, than to live in Mexico as full citizens with full rights.
What does that say about how Mexico thinks of them as exceptional, Senor Sada? What does that say about your welcome mat for them?
But let’s not just talk about “dreamers”, Mr. Sada. How about explaining to us why 10% OF THE ENTIRE MEXICAN POPULATION (that is NOT a typo), whether legally or illegally, have fled Mexico to come here.
I’ll give you a hint: is sure as eff isn’t because you welcome them in your own country with open arms.
So do us a favor: take your phony-baloney, sanctimonious, hypocritical BS somewhere else. People with brains aren’t buying it.
Oh, and have a nice day.
