A MATH LESSON FOR HILLARY CLINTON

Ken Berwitz

Campaigning in Keota, Iowa today, Hillary Clinton – so help me I\’m not making this up – said:

“Now, I wouldn\’t keep any school open that wasn\’t doing a better than average job.”
Uh, Ms. Clinton….

Assuming that schools do not do exactly the same job of educating children, this would mean that, over time, you would close down all but one school in the country.

Now I know you didn\’t really mean it that way.  I know you meant, far more generally, that you would shut down schools which were not educating children well.

But I wonder if you realize that this means most schools in urban minority areas – other than a large percentage of charter schools – would go bye-bye.  Read the statistics and see for yourself.

Is that your intention?

Another question, Ms. Clinton:  you were a U.S. Senator from New York for 8 years.  Can you point to the legislation that you proposed – let alone shepherded through to enactment – which improved schools?

Because if you can\’t, then this promise should go on top of the “I said it, but don\’t expect me to do it” pile….which, if my calculations are correct, currently dwarfs Mount Everest.
