Speaking of pathetic liars…
….the quote of the day – and there isn\’t even a second place – comes to us from Barack Obama\’s ridiculously pathetic liar of a Press Secretary, Jay Carney.
Here is his “explanation” (if you can call it that) of why the Obama White House – even as it propagandizes every day about a Republican “war on women” – pays its female employees, on average, 12% less than its male employees:
“Wehave two deputy chiefs of staff, one man and one woman, and they makethe same salary. We have 16 department heads. Overhalf of them are women, all of whom make the same salary as theirmale counterparts. What I can tell you is that we have, as an institution here, haveaggressively addressed this challenge, and obviously, though, at the88 cents that you cite, that is not a hundred, but it is better thanthe national average. And when it comes to thebottom line that women who do the same work as men have to be paidthe same, there is no question that that is happening here at theWhite House at every level.”
Not even a nice try, Jay.
See, Obama & Co. never tire of lying to us that women are paid 77% of what men are paid. If that were true in any logical sense, then, while still plenty deficient, the Obama White House would be better than the national average.
But it is not true in any logical sense. Carney\’s 77-cents-on-the-dollar routine applies only when you compare all men, regardless of their occupations and years of experience, to all women, regardless of their occupations and years of experience.
In the real world, for a variety of reasons, women tend to gravitate toward lower paying, more “caring” professions. And when you compare apples to apples (i.e. comparable jobs and comparable years of experience), the gender gap is virtually nonexistent.
Read Christina Hoff Sommers\’ article at dailybeast.com (hardly a right wing web site), which provides invaluable specifics about where men and women land in the workplace, and you will find that, when an apples-to-apples comparison is made, the difference is about 5 cents.
If lying to our faces were the sole criterion for Quote Of The Day honors, Jay Carney would have already won this award many times over. But since there are other criteria – some positive, some negative – I only award it for straight lying when the lie is so blatant and so over-the-top that it truly stands above (or maybe below) the rest. And this is one such instance.
Congratulations, Mr. Carney. You have outdone yourself. But don\’t worry; there are still a lot of people out there who don\’t know better and will buy what you are selling anyway.
Lucky for you and your boss, too bad for them.
