This is something of a shot in the dark, but here goes.
I have written about a half dozen children\’s books. Most of them are copyrighted (only the newest couple are not).
Unlike this blog, the books are entirely apolitical. Just fun, somewhat offbeat, stories for children in the 4 – 9 year old range (the age appropriateness varies from story to story).
My grandson, who is now 7, has loved every one of them – but that is not meaningful, because I\’m grandpa and we have fun no matter what we do together.
Much more importantly, I have given them to a relatively large number of parents to read to their children in that age range – a particularly brutal test, since there are no illustrations or recognizable characters, only the stories themselves.
The parents were asked – begged – to tell me the absolute truth about their children\’s reactions; no glossing over of any kind if their children did not like them. And, with one exception for one story, the feedback has been tremendously positive.
My adult-book publisher does not handle children\’s books. He suggested I contact literary agents who specialize in this kind of material. So, several months ago, I sent the copyrighted stories to about a dozen of them.
I got one response, from an agent telling me she no longer is in that end of the business. Nothing else – not an acceptance, not a rejection. I\’m guessing they were never read at all.
With that exasperating experience under my belt, it occurred to me that, since thousands and thousands of people read this blog every day, it is possible that, just in the random scheme of things, one or more might have a connection to the creation and publishing of children\’s books – or can put me in contact with someone who does.
If you happen to fit this description, please let me know in the “comments” section and we\’ll take it from there.
Needless to say, I will, of course, be very, very interested to see if anyone responds.
