I\’velearned that my father, Fred Phelps, Sr., pastor of the “GodHates Fags” Westboro Baptist Church, was ex-communicated fromthe “church” back in August of 2013. He is now on the edgeof death at Midland Hospice house in Topeka, Kansas.
I\’mnot sure how I feel about this. Terribly ironic that his devotion tohis god ends this way. Destroyed by the monster he made.
Ifeel sad for all the hurt he\’s caused so many. I feel sad for thosewho will lose the grandfather and father they loved. And I\’m bitterlyangry that my family is blocking the family members who left fromseeing him, and saying their good-byes.
It\’s a little difficult to understand how Nate Phelps feels about his father. I did not know he was “excommunicated” from what passes for his religious organization. And, as odious as I find fred phelps, I don\’t wish him death.
But I do know that the world is a better place without a sack of manure like this in it. So I\’m not going to pretend that, when he goes, it will bother me in the least.
It won\’t.
