Have you seen the latest polling on New York Mayor Bill de Blasio?
de Blasio, you may recall, is the guy who won his mayoral election with 73% of the vote (not a typo) – a huge margin of victory.
Well, now New York has had a two month taste of his mayoralty. And, according to the latest Wall Street Journal/WNBC poll, we find that just 39% of New Yorkers think de Blasio is doing an “excellent” or “good” job – with a minuscule 10% rating him excellent. By contrast, 57% rate him him “fair” or “poor”…with 20% specifying “poor”.
And, since New York City is overwhelmingly Democrat, those poll data mean that Democrats are engaging in a massive display of buyers\’ remorse over the choice they made…both in the mayoral primary and in the general election.
My reaction to this? Tough padookies.
Here is my note to the Democrats of New York City; the ones who gave us Mayor Bill de Blasio:
Dear Democrats:
In the primaries, YOU voted for an unabashedly, unrepentantly far left ideologue over all the other choices. Why? Because you were impressed with his teenage son\’s Angela Davis-like afro? Until the commercial with Dante de Blasio was aired, daddy Bill was going nowhere in the primaries – and then, suddenly, he was #1.
That is how you picked your candidate? That is how you charted the course of your city? Holy excrement.
Let\’s remember that, to Bill de Blasio\’s credit, he never presented himself as anything but who and what he is. As Mayor, he is doing nothing other than what he promised to do during the election campaign. Therefore if you don\’t like it, you have nobody to blame but yourselves.
Bill de Blasio is the first Democrat Mayor of New York City in 20 years. There were 8 years of Democrat-turned-Republican Rudy Giuliani, and 12 of Democrat-turned-Republican-turned independent Michael Bloomberg.
During those 20 years, New York City rose, like a phoenix from the ashes and regained its status as a viable, vibrant, success story. It became The Big Apple again.
By contrast, cities like Detroit and Chicago kept electing hack politicians and leftward ideologues to run their cities. Are you impressed with the results?
I guess you must be. Because now you have done the same.
Bottom line: you nominated and elected Bill de Blasio. You got exactly what you bargained for. Now you can “enjoy” it for the next four years.
You have no one to blame but yourselves.
