Is Secretary of State John Kerry really this incompetent? This obtuse?
First his boss, President Barack Obama, comes out and “warns” Vladimir Putin that there will be “costs” if he goes into the Ukraine.
Putin, fresh from taking Mr. Obama to the cleaners in Iran and then Syria, then shows how worried this makes him by sending in troops within 24 hours of his statement. That is a slap in the face so clear that even Obama\’s Accomplice Media can\’t ignore it.
So what does Secretary Kerry do? He overtly threatens Putin: exactly what his boss did not do just days ago.
Do these two even talk to each other?
Excerpted from the Face The Nation web site at cbsnews.com:
Secretaryof State John Kerry warned Russia Sunday that it should rethink itsmilitary intervention in Ukraine, warning of possible economicconsequences and embarrassment on the world stage.
“It\’san incredible act of aggression. It is really a stunning, willfulchoice by President Putin to invade another country,” Kerry saidon “Face the Nation” Sunday, adding that Russia hasviolated Ukraine\’s sovereignty and several of its obligations underinternational agreements. “You just don\’t in the 21st centurybehave in 19th century fashion by invading another country oncompletely trumped up pretext.”
Severalforeign powers are already preparing a set of economic consequencesif Russia does not withdraw its forces. Kerry said he spoke to 10 ofthe foreign ministers of the countries most engaged on the issue, and”all of them, every single one of them are prepared to go to thehilt in order to isolate Russia with respect to this invasion.They\’re prepared to put sanctions in place, they\’re prepared toisolate Russia economically.”
Healso said the U.S. was “absolutely prepared” to boycott theupcoming G8 summit in Sochi, the site of the 2014Winter Olympics, and suggested that visa bans, asset freezes andother acts to isolate Russia in the trade or business realm couldmotivate Putin to act.
“We\’renot trying to make this a battle between East and West, we\’re nottrying to make this a Cold War. Nobody wants this kind of action, there are many ways to resolve this kind of problem,” Kerrysaid. “If Russia wants to be a G8 country, it needs to behavelike a G8 country, and I guarantee you that everybody is determinedthat if this cannot be resolved in a reasonable, modern, 21st centurymanner, there are going to be repercussions.”
Kerrysaid Putin\’s actions were motivated by “weakness and out of acertain kind of desperation.”
Kerry insults Putin – a career KGB operative – by calling him weak and desperate, and thinks that is going to make him cower in a corner?
He also speaks for 10 foreign countries and tells us their specific foreign policy regarding Putin\’s actions in the Ukraine. Did they all formulate their policy already? Did they all tell Kerry the same thing in the same way, as he inherently is claiming?
This is nuts.
John Kerry has opened that big yap of his like he\’s making a senate speech no one cares about – not like a Secretary of State, who diplomats around the world actually listen and pay attention to.
His words are empty and non-credible. Putin\’s actions are decisive and inherently credible, because they are actions.
And Russia, by virtue of its size, location and natural resources, is still a country that cannot be dismissed by the rest of the world, no matter how much it dislikes Putin.
Therefore, John Kerry taken a lousy situation, which President Obama worsened by his child\’s-view-of-the-world warning to Putin, and made it worse still by bloviating out his saberless saber-rattling.
Three more years of this? We\’ll be lucky if Putin isn\’t operating out of the White House by then.
