If you think Israel could live very happily without hamas ruling Gaza you would, of course, be right.
But if you think it is any different for Egypt – the other country which borders Gaza (and which once controlled it) – you would be wrong.
How wrong? Read this excerpt from Elad Benari\’s article at israelnationalnews.com, and see for yourself:
Egyptis continuing its crackdown not only on Sinai terrorism but on Gaza\’sHamas rulers as well.
TheBethlehem-based Ma\’annews agency reported that Egyptian border forces destroyed 10 tunnelsand seven homes in the Sinai on Saturday, as part of new campaign tocreate a buffer zone along the border with Gaza that would extend 500meters in some places.
Thesecurity source added that the tunnels were destroyed and the homesthey were located in were subsequently blown up.
Heexplained that the move was part of a wider campaign to set up abuffer zone along the border with Gaza that would extend 300 metersin populated areas and 500 meters in open areas.
Headded that army forces raided “militant strongholds” in thevillage of al-Kharuba south of Sheikh Zuweid and destroyed threehomes and five “hideouts,” according to Ma\’an.
Theyalso destroyed an olive grove that was reportedly used to hidemilitants following attacks taking place on the nearby road to RafiahInternational crossing.
Wait a minute:
-Egypt can\’t deal with hamas any more than Israel can?
-Egypt is destroying homes on its border with Gaza to create a “buffer zone” separating them from each other?
-Egypt destroyed a Gaza olive grove for security purposes?
Wow, the international outcry must be deafening. Just as loud as when Israel bulldozed homes and took out olive groves for precisely the same reason. Right?
Uh, right?
Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel – my fellow alumni from Forest Hills High School in Queens, New York – famously sung about the “Sounds of Silence”.
Well, media-wise, you can listen to the sounds of silence as Egypt does what it has to do to put distance between them and the terrorists who rule Gaza.
That\’s something for all reasonable people to remember…and another thing for Israel\’s BDS (Boycott, Divest, Sanction) proponents to ignore.
