Did you think the $300 – $634 million dollar ObamaCare web site catastrophe was the only one?
If so, think again. Or, better yet, just read this – excerpted from Sarah Hurtubise\’s article at dailcaller.com:
Membersof Congress want to know how Obamacare exchanges in Oregon andMaryland could have spent hundreds of millions in federal money onwebsites that don\’t work.
“Thecatastrophic breakdown of Cover Oregon is unacceptable and taxpayersdeserve accountability,” House Energy and Commerce Committeeleadership wroteto the General Accountability Office Thursday.
Meanwhile,Maryland Rep. Andy Harris and Georgia Rep. Jack Kingston, bothRepublicans, addressed their letteron the Maryland Obamacare exchange to the Department of Health andHuman Services (HHS) inspector general, requesting an immediate”formal investigation into the flagrant waste and abuse of taxpayermonies.”
Harrisand Kingston, both members of the House Appropriations Committee andsubcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, lambasted the $261million cost of the nonfunctional exchange – all but $47 millionwill be paid by federal taxpayers – and noted that state officialscontinued working on the website despite serious concerns presentedby private consultants.
If you read the letter Mr. Harris and Mr. Kingston wrote, you will find that Maryland alone has spent $261 million on its exchange – which works about as well as the national one did. And Oregon? I don\’t know how much that state blew away, but since, for months, not one Oregon resident was able to sign up, every dollar was wasted there.
When Maryland and Oregon are added to the national web site, we are approaching a billion dollars – maybe even exceeding it to pay for web sites that add new meaning to the word “useless”. And almost all those dollars are out of the taxpayers\’ hide.
Now: when do our mainstream media going to come down on the administration people responsible for this debacle? When are they going to demand an explanation of why the companies which screwed taxpayers so badly are held to account? Why the web sites are not just bad, but damn near inoperable? Why the administration is not insisting that part or all of the unconscionably high amount of money it spent on the web sites is not returned – with an apology?
Or would that be too much like real journalism?
