H.L. MENCKEN ON DONALD TRUMP

Ken Berwitz

Henry Louis Mencken – who, next to Mark Twain, was, in my thinking, the most quotable American commentator in American history – died in 1956.  Dona\’d Trump was just 10 years old at the time.  But I have a feeling they must have met.

Here is one of my favorite quotes of his, which predated The Donald by 20 years:

“No one in this world, so far as I know-and I have researched the records for years, and employed agents to help me-has ever lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the great masses of the plain people. Nor has anyone ever lost public office thereby.”

Tell me this man was not a visionary.  I dare you.
