HILLARY\’S EXCELLENT POLICY ADVENTURE

Ken Berwitz

I do not like or trust Hillary Clinton.  But any day she makes an excellent proposal, she deserves credit.  And yesterday was one such day.

From David E. Sanger\’s article in yesterday\’s New York Times:

HillaryClinton said on Sunday that the Islamic State had become “themost effective recruiter in the world” and that the only solution was to engageAmerican technology companies in blocking or taking down militant websites, videos and encrypted communications.

“You are going to hearall the familiar complaints: \’freedom of speech,\'” Mrs. Clinton said inan hourlong speech and question-and-answer session at the Saban Forum, anannual gathering at the Brookings Institution that focuses mostly on Israel\’s securityissues.

In a reference toSilicon Valley\’s reverence for disruptive technologies, Mrs. Clinton said, “Weneed to put the great disrupters at work at disrupting ISIS,” an acronym usedfor the militant group.

She said there shouldbe “no doubt in Tehran” that if the United States saw “any violations in thedeal” or an effort to procure or develop nuclearweapons technology, “we will stop them,” including, she added, “taking military action.”

My congratulations to Ms. Clinton.  That is a logical, intelligent, aggressive policy which – short of a hot war (which should ony be a last resort) – has about as good a chance of being effective as any I can think of.

I hope she actually means it…and would actually put it into effect if elected President.
