THE QUOTE OF THE DAY

Today’s quote – a lengthy one, but vitally important – comes to us from retired four-star general Jack Keane.

Speaking on Fox News, here is what General Keane has to say about our current conuct of the war in Iran:

“We have to accept the reality that’s just not going to happen.  They have one motive: Stretch out negotiations as much as possible, get as close to the political situation in terms of midterm elections, and there will be less likelihood that President Trump would ever pull the trigger and go back to military operations. I believe that is their unstated strategy.

“We can’t throw them a financial lifeline … because then they’ll systematically reverse everything.  They’ve always cheated in the past, and they’ll cheat in the future.

“Look, in close to 50 years, only one president has taken consequential action against Iran and their predator behavior, and that’s President Trump.  Five weeks of Epic Fury and a naval blockade devastated this regime militarily and economically. They’re down, but they’re not out.

“If we go back to military operations, and I believe that’s the preferred option, we should return to full combat operations.

“Iran is going to retaliate regardless of whether you go small or go big. Let’s go big,  Take down as much of their capability as we possibly can and get these guys as close to collapse as military operations can possibly achieve.”

President Trump has spent over a month assuring us that “negotiations” beneficial to the USA are taking place/are almost complete.  Speaking candidly, there is no apparent reason to believe a word of that.

Despite our blockade, Iran still clearly controls most shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.  They attack us, and our middle east allies, daily.  And they are publicly making demands that suggest they, rather than we, have the upper hand.

How long can this continue before the rest of the world agrees that Iran does have the upper hand.  That it is they, not we, who are in control?

Is there some great master-stroke on the very near horizon that Trump has had to keep from us until implementation?  That is possible, I concede.  But it is also possible – and looks much more likely – that Iran is playing him the way it played Obama and whoever was running the Biden administration.

I award General Jack Keane for articulating this reality so clearly…and for outlining what, in the absence of that possible great master-stroke on the very near horizon – what has to be done.

The sooner the better.
