“We have voted 13 times on a clean bill – the exact same kind of bill that has averted shutdowns for the last 35 years.
“And 13 times, while virtually every Republican has voted to end the shutdown, almost all Democrats have voted against it, thus extending the shutdown. If even a small percentage of us voted in favor, the shutdown would end. But we are not doing so.
“So what are we telling you about this? We are telling you that Republicans are shutting down the government. Not us, but Republicans.
“We are telling you that Republicans have a majority in the house – which they do – and that proves they are the ones shutting the government down.
“What we are not telling you is that the vote to end a shutdown is NOT a majority vote. It requires 60 votes. And since Republicans hold 53 seats, they cannot end the shutdown without Democrat votes – which is what we are not giving them.
“And what is our hope?
“Our hope is that you are such a SIP – either so Stupid, and/or so Ignorant, and/or so Partisan, that these facts won’t mean a thing.
“Put another way, we are counting on you being stupid/ignorant/partisan enough to believe us.
