What happens when a major political party is taken over by its hardliner fringe?
As the Democrat Party’s far left fringe continues to take over, we continue to see the answer.
Here is the latest installment, via this excerpt from Bradley Jaye’s article at breitbart.com:
The Democrat Party is hemorrhaging support with no end in sight, according to a shocking analysis of new voter registrations.
Fueled by President Donald Trump’s gains among men, younger voters, and Latinos in 2024, more new voters nationwide chose to be Republicans than Democrats for the first time since 2018, according to a report from the New York Times which relies on voter registration data compiled by L2, a nonpartisan data firm.
Perhaps more troubling for Democrats, the data suggests Democrat Party activists can no longer rely on the party’s tried-and-true methods to reverse the trend, leaving panicked party leaders and pundits unsure how to resurrect the party’s electoral prospects.
The numbers are staggering.
“Of the 30 states that track voter registration by political party, Democrats lost ground to Republicans in every single one between the 2020 and 2024 elections — and often by a lot,” the report reads. “That four-year swing toward the Republicans adds up to 4.5 million voters, a deep political hole that could take years for Democrats to climb out from.”
“All told, Democrats lost about 2.1 million registered voters between the 2020 and 2024 elections in the 30 states, along with Washington, D.C., that allow people to register with a political party,” the report adds. “(In the remaining 20 states, voters do not register with a political party.) Republicans gained 2.4 million.”
These data are truly staggering. EVERY STATE that allows people to register by party shows a shift from Democrats to Republicans. Every one. And this, of course, does not include voter sentiment in the 20 states that do not allow party registration…where, common sense tells us, voters most likely would be moving in the same direction for the same reasons.
And let’s remember that these data are not being dredged up by some wild-eyed right wing site, they are being reported in the all-Democrat/left-all-the-time New York Times.
Now: what are Democrats going to do about it?
Will the moderate Democrats who used to run the party and keep it reasonably mainstream regain control? As of now, with “the squad” and its pals in command, that is highly unlikely.
Will Democrats continue to fight against every effort to clean up the voting rolls, require voter ID, and other ways to make elections fairer/cheating harder? If they do, won’t that result in more voter disillusionment with the party among the general voting population, thus further erosion of their base?
We are watching a major political party disintegrate right in front of our eyes. Do you see any way out of the hole it keeps digging itself?
As of now, I sure don’t.
