Despite being an outspoken critic of Israel’s war in Gaza, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., was not spared from vandalism at the hands of pro-Palestinian activists. Her Bronx office was splashed with red paint and a sign left by protesters reading “AOC funds genocide in Gaza.” The vandalism is in apparent backlash from her decision to vote against slashing U.S. funding for Israel’s missile defense.
The group that took responsibility for the actions, known as the Boogie Down Liberation Front, expressed disappointment after Ocasio-Cortez failed to support an amendment introduced by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., that would have blocked U.S. funding for Israel’s air defense systems. Ocasio-Cortez defended her vote, noting that the proposed amendment did nothing to end the transfer of offensive weapons to Israel and would have eliminated some vital defense systems.
The proposed amendment to the Department of Defense Appropriations act proposed by Greene would have cut approximately $500 million from Israel’s air defense systems.
“The Bronx is sick and tired of people like AOC and Ritchie Torres using us as a stepping stone for their own political careers,” Boogie Down Liberation Front said in a statement. The Bronx stands with the people of Palestine and we denounce the hypocrisy of AOC who voted to fund Israel’s ongoing genocide and starvation campaign in Gaza. F— AOC!”
Got that? alexandria ocasio-cortez voted against a bill because it “did nothing to end the transfer of offensive weapons to Israel and would have eliminated some vital defense systems” – in other words, she felt that it wouldn’t stop Israel’s actions in Gaza, it would only damage Israel’s ability to defend itself from its enemies. And Israel’s ability to defend itself was an affront to these nice folks, who – I would assume – were happy with “aoc” until now.
See, the idea isn’t to stop “Israeli genocide” against Gazans, the idea is to get rid of Israel, period. And since ocasio-cortez seems ok with Israel’s existence (on her terms, of course) that makes her a traitor to the cause.
Now let’s see how she handles this. I would put it at 50-50, whether she continues to defend her vote, or tries to convince the “boogie down liberation front” that she wants Israel exterminated, just like they do.
We’ll see….
One other thing: until this article I had never heard of the “boogie down liberation front”, so I googled it. And the first dozen articles I found all referenced only the attack on aoc headquarters; not one of them seemed to have heard of this so-called group in any other context. It makes me think this is one of those “groups” that, in reality, is composed of just a few people who found a way to get publicity. If so, mission accomplished.
