Do you really need another reason not to trust mainstream media’s neutrality?
Probably not. But here’s another one anyway.
Yesterday it was announced that yearly core inflation has dropped to 2.8%, and the inflation rate is now 2.4%.
This is the first time core inflation has been below 3% since April of 2021 – four years ago. In between, there was a two and a half year stretch when it was over 4% and about a year and a half when it was over 5%. (here’s the chart. See for yourself).
So that would be big news wouldn’t it?
Well, here, from Jorge Bonilla’s article at newsbusters.org, is how the three major networks treated it:
-NBC Nightly News – only 8 seconds of coverage…after a 2 minute and 44 second negative report on tariffs:
“That bright spot, consumer prices fell in March from the month before, bringing the inflation rate to 2.4%.”
-CBS Evening News – only 9 seconds of coverage with no mention of the rate itself:
“Falling gasoline prices are helping to bring inflation down. The government reported today that consumer prices fell a tenth of a percent in March.”
-And ABC World News? Here it its report on this excellent economic news:
Don’t see anything there? That’s not an accidental omission. It is because ABC World News did not report this news. Not one word.
A question for you: If this were the Biden administration – or, for that matter, any Democrat administration – bringing down the inflation rate from a Republican administration’s far worse record, do you think the networks would have brushed it off this way?
With the above in mind, I’ll ask again what I asked at the beginning of my blog: do you really need another reason not to trust mainstream media’s neutrality?
If so, I’d say this would qualify.
